Motion Sensor | Motion Detector

Motion Detector

One of the most important devices on your home security system is a motion detector or motion sensor.   A Motion detector is a device that detects motion that different frequencies to alert you of an intruder.  A passive infared, microwave or photoelectric detector can sense sutble changes in a room caused by the intruder.  Most security alarms are equiped with special motion and heat detectors for people who have pets that reside inside the home.

Motion Sensor

For example, a pet immune motion detector can alert you of targets that weigh over 80 pounds.  Interior motion detectors are usually wall mounted for maximum range and coverage.  Out of all the different designs of motion sensors, the passive infra-red motion detector is the least susceptible to false alarms.  A motion detector on your home security system detects the presence of a person by comparing the 98.6 degree body heat to the surrounding temperature while your pet or typical rodent does not create the necesary heat to trigger the security alarm system.  Motion detectors are useful for providing coverage in attics and garages.
