Power Supply
All home security systems must have 120 volt electrical power to operate in normal status. With this in mind, the alarm system power supply or transformer is the power supply that converts AC to DC inside the burglar alarm system. The power transformer is connected directly to the alarm system master control panel and then into a standard wall electrical outlet. The first thing to check when you have problems with your security system is the power transformer. If you touch the transformer and its warm, then you have power. If it is cold, you have shorted out the transformer and the alarm system will then operate on the backup battery system.
