Glass Break Detector
Glass Break Detector
On any burglar alarm system, the glass break detector is the device that is strategically located within the home that detects and senses the high pitch of breaking glass. Glass break detectors are important because intruders might decide to break a window to enter the residence. In this case, the window or door contact sensor will not trip because the frame is still closed thus not setting off the alarm system. In most cases, the glass break detector is installed in the ceiling and the total number of glass break detectors depend on the total square footage of space you wish to cover.
A glass break detector offers an adjustable sensitivity switch that allows you to adjust the range of detection. In some cases, false alarms can be a problem if they are set to high on the sensitivity scale. Be sure to ask your alarm system provider for more details.
Glass break detectors are available in both hardwired and wireless versions. The glass break detector covers a minimum of 20 feet in all directions so this means that one detector can be mounted in a room with multiple windows to protect all vulnerable spots. It is important to realize that the detectors can not listen through walls or around the corners but capabilities of certain glass break detectors depend on the model.
