Water or Flood Sensor
Flood and water sensors are the devices on a security system that are designed to sense and detect water and trigger an alarm condition. These flood sensors can be a stand alone unit or work in conjunction with a phone dialer, alarm system or enviromental control system. A flood sensor can also be integrated with a value control unit that automatically shuts off a water line when activated.
You can also get a less expensive water or flood sensor that just sounds an alarm but does not shut off the water supply. The purpose is to give you an early warning sign that a leak may need attention. It will also give you the opportunity to move furniture out of the path of the water. Time is of the essence.
Installation of flood and water sensors should be in leak prone areas such as water heaters, washing machine, dishwasher and sinks as this limits the damage that can result from unseen or undetected leaks and drips. Make sure that you water sensor does not activate when it detects condensation or high humidity. Getting an early warning of a leak can make the difference of damage or diaster.
