Door and Window Sensors
Door and Window Contact Sensor
On a burglar alarm system, the door and window sensors are the component that protects the doors and windows from being open during an intrusion and work with a sensor and a magnet that is place on the frame of the door or window to complete a closed circuit. When the circuit is broken by opening the door or window, the alarm system is triggered and the siren sounds thus sending a signal to the alarm monitoring center.
There are two types of door and windor sensors to choose from which are the surface and recessed designs. Surface contact sensors are less expensive but more noticable than the recessed contact sensors. With a surface, the sensor is installed on the surface of the frame with a magnetic strip on the door or window itself. With recessed, the magnet and sensor is placed inside the frame of the door or window to hide the component from view.
There is also a third type of sensor which is the standard garage door sensor that is similar to a surface contact sensor in design and appearance. The garage door sensor is place on the floor while the magnetic component is installed on the garage door itself.
You can get a door or window sensor in both hardwired and wireless alarm systems. While hardwired sensors are less expensive, they are more labor intensive to install. On the contrary, wireless alarm sensors are easy to install and can be added to or moved around to different locations with ease.
